Robert Casey was born in 1960 and is currently serving as the senior United States Senator from Pennsylvania. Senator Casey was reelected in 2018 and his seat will be up for election in 2024.

Casey began his political career as Auditor General of Pennsylvania, a post to which he was elected to in 1996 and reelected in 2000. He could not run again due to term limits, so he instead ran for and was elected State Treasurer in the 2004 election. Casey defeated incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Rick Santorum in the 2006 election and was reelected in 2012.

Senator Casey is currently serving on the Finance Committee; the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee; the Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee; and the Special Committee on Aging.

Below is Senator Casey’s voting record and public positions on issues important to the Jewish community. 

Senator Casey supported the Iran nuclear deal. Senator Casey opposes the global Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and cosponsored the Combating BDS Act of 2017, legislation that aims to fight the boycott movement against Israel. He cosponsored legislation that objects to UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which claimed that Israel’s settlements have no legal validity. He supports the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Senator Casey supported the Taylor Force Act, which stated that no American governmental funds shall be given to a Palestinian entity that financially rewards terrorists or their families.

In 2018, Senator Casey cosponsored the United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act, a legislation that supported full funding of security assistance to Israel as outlined in the 2016 U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding.

In 2019, he voted for the Strengthening America’s Middle East Security Act which, among other things, strengthened Israel’s security and allowed a state or local government to adopt measures to divest its assets from entities that boycott Israel.

Senator Casey is a cosponsor of the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act, which aims to provide for the consideration of a definition of anti-Semitism for the enforcement of Federal antidiscrimination laws concerning education programs or activities.
