Mazie Hirono was born in 1947 and is currently serving as the junior United States Senator from Hawaii. Senator Hirono was reelected in 2018 and her seat is up for election in 2024.
Hirono, was elected as senator in 2012. She served as a member of the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1985 to 1995 and as the Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii from 1994 to 2002 under Governor Ben Cayetano. Hirono was a member of the United States House of Representatives for Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district from 2007 to 2013. She is the first elected female Senator from the State of Hawaii. Senator Hirono is the current dean of Hawaii’s Congressional Delegation.
Senator Hirono is currently serving on the Armed Services Committee; the Judiciary Committee; the Energy and Natural Resources Committee; the Veterans’ Affairs Committee; and the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

Senator Hirono supported the Iran nuclear deal. She cosponsored the United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act, a legislation that supported full funding of security assistance to Israel as outlined in the 2016 U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding.
Senator Hirono cosponsored legislation that objected to UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which claimed that Israel’s settlements have no legal validity. In 2019, she voted against the Strengthening America’s Middle East Security Act which, among other things, strengthened Israel’s security and allowed a state or local government to adopt measures to divest its assets from entities that boycott Israel.
