Jacklyn Rosen, who is Jewish, was born in 1957 and is currently serving as the junior United States Senator from Nevada. Senator Rosen was elected in 2018 and her seat will be up for election in 2024.
Rosen was elected in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2016 and he served for one term before running successfully to represent Nevada in the U.S. Senate. She is a former president of Congregation Ner Tamid in Henderson, a Reform synagogue in Las Vegas.
Senator Rosen is currently serving on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee; the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee; the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee; the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee; and the Special Committee on Aging.
Below is Senator Rosen’s voting record and public positions on issues important to the Jewish community.
Senator Rosen opposed the Iran nuclear deal. She opposed UN Security Council Resolution 2334 that claimed that Israel’s settlements have no legal validity. Senator Rosen opposes the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and cosponsored the Israel Anti-Boycott Act, a bill that aimed to fight discriminatory boycotts that target Israel.
While a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Rosen cosponsored the United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act, a legislation that supported full funding of security assistance to Israel as outlined in the 2016 U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding.
In 2019, she voted for the Strengthening America’s Middle East Security Act which, among other things, strengthened Israel’s security and allowed a state or local government to adopt measures to divest its assets from entities that boycott Israel. She is a cosponsor of the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act, which aims to provide for the consideration of a definition of anti-Semitism for the enforcement of Federal antidiscrimination laws concerning education programs or activities.
