Deborah Stabenow was born in 1950 and is currently serving as the senior United States Senator from Michigan. Senator Stabenow was reelected in 2018 and her seat will be up for election in 2024.
Debbie Stabenow was elected to the United States Senate in 2000. Prior to that, she served in the U.S. House of Representatives for two terms – from 1996 until 2000 – representing Michigan’s 8th Congressional District. She became chair of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee, which is responsible for the creation of new proposals for the Democratic Party.
Senator Stabenow is currently the Ranking Member on the Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee. She also serves on the Budget Committee; the Finance Committee; and the Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

Senator Stabenow supported the Iran nuclear deal. She supported legislation that objected the UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which claimed that Israel’s settlements have no legal validity. She cosponsored the Combating BDS Act of 2017, which aimed to fight the boycott movement against Israel.
Senator Stabenow supports the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She cosponsored the United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act of 2018, a legislation that supported full funding of security assistance to Israel as outlined in the 2016 U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding.
In 2019, she voted for the Strengthening America’s Middle East Security Act which, among other things, strengthened Israel’s security and allowed a state or local government to adopt measures to divest its assets from entities that boycott Israel.
In July 2019, Senator Stabenow cosponsored a resolution that opposes the delegitimization of Israel and the global BDS movement.
