Daniel Ahlers was born in 1973. He is challenging Senator Mike Rounds in the race for South Dakota’s Senate seat.

Dan Ahlers is a former member of the South Dakota House of Representatives and of the South Dakota Senate. Ahlers served in the state senate from 2009 to 2010. He served in the state’s House of Representatives from 2007 to 2008 and again from 2017 to 2018. In 2018 he lost his re-election bid by about 100 votes to his Republican opponent.

Since June 2020, Ahlers has been serving as president and interim administrator of the Dell Rapids Chamber of Commerce. Ahlers has been a substitute teacher in the Dell Rapids School District. He has served in the past as board member of Carroll Institute, president of the Dell Rapids Community Fund, and more.
