Chris Janicek was born in 1963. He is challenging Senator Ben Sasse in the race for Nebraska’s Senate seat.
Janicek is a small business owner and property investor. Janicek graduated from the University of Nebraska in political science. He briefly attended dental school before opening his own bakery. He has since had wedding cake and cupcake businesses in Omaha for two decades. In his current bid for the Senate, Janicek lost the support of the Nebraska Democratic Party after a controversy with past racist comments and a sexually explicit text message.
Janicek ran in 2018 for the Democratic party nomination to challenge incumbent Republican Senator Deb Fischer. He lost the Democratic primary to Jane Raybould with 20.22% of the vote to Raybould’s 63.68%.
The Democratic primary in Nebraska was scheduled on May 12, 2020. Janicek won the crowded primary election with 30.7% of the vote.
