Thomas Emmer was born in 1961 and is currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District.

Emmer was first first elected in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014 and has been reelected since. Prior to being elected to the U.S. Congress, he served as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 until 2011. He was the Republican nominee for Governor of Minnesota in 2010. He currently serves as teh Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

U.S. Representative Emmer has sparked controversy for penning a letter that evoked age-old anti-Semitic tropes.

Rep. Tom Emmer penned a letter as Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee that accues “deep-pocketed far-left billionaires” Michael Bloomberg, George Soros, and Tom Steyer of funding “biased media and hundreds of millions of dollars of anti-Republican propaganda.” He went on to say that “these left-wing radicals essentially BOUGHT control of Congress for the Democrats.”

The naming of three individuals, all of whom are of Jewish ancestry, evokes myths that are viewed by many as anti-Semitic, whereby wealthy Jews control the media and government through money and influence.
